Welcome to ECOSS35

It is a great pleasure to announce the 35th European Conference on Surface Science which will take place at the University of Luxembourg, Belval Campus, Luxembourg, from the 29th of August  to the 2nd of September 2022.

ECOSS is a traditional annual meeting directed jointly by the Surface Science Division of the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications (IUVSTA) and the Surface and Interface Section of the European Physical Society (EPS).

The conference provides an excellent opportunity for scientists from Europe and from all over the world to meet and discuss the latest advances in the physics and chemistry of surfaces. Furthermore, it is a forum to discuss the impact of surface science in the related innovation fields such as heterogeneous catalysis, two-dimensional materials and graphene, nanoelectronics, bio-nanoscience and energy materials.

PCAM school of surface science

In parallel to the ECOSS conference, we will host the 2022 PCAM school on surface science, a week of dedicated teaching of some of the most important topics in surface science. Participants of the school (mainly addressed to PhD students and junior Postdocs) will participate to the plenary sessions of the conference. The teaching sessions of the school will run in parallel to the topical sessions of the conference. Participating students are encouraged to present a poster at the conference poster session.

A flourishing economy, an active commitment to research, the recent best worldwide rankings regarding personal safety in the capital and a state of the art infrastructure build an ideal backdrop for international meetings.

Luxembourg as a Research, Development and Innovation hub

The last years were marked by the move of the university and research centers to the vibrant site of BELVAL. The Luxembourg RDI hub is unique in terms of urban life with its exceptional architecture and assembles all the elements to become one of the most prestigious innovation ecosystems in Europe. A variety of research and innovation actors can be found on the site of Belval as the University of Luxembourg (UL), research institutions, a business incubator, the National Research Fund, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology and the National Agency for Innovation and Research.

The conference venue is located in the new BELVAL Campus in the south of Luxembourg.
